There's a solid game underneath the multiple hiccups, its still Rune Factory after all. It's a fantasy farming/life sim game first and foremost, not a story game. They often follow similar patterns (seriously, enough amnesia, it's just lazy) and are generally bland. The story is a bit short and manages to have many plot holes and loose ends in spite of its brevity, but if I'm being honest I've never been particularly impressed by RF stories. If that's in your wheelhouse, I'd say you're good to go. Expect low brow gameplay with charming characters and a long progression system. RF5 is a little more approachable than RF4 for newcomers and can be easy to sink a few hundred hours into. The Rune Factory franchise itself has a load of jank in it's gameplay that can be both fun and annoying. Not only can you marry male or female characters regardless of your gender, you can marry furries! I tried replaying RF4S but having to play as a girl after being spoiled with RF5, I just couldn’t get into it (I did play RF4 religiously on the 3DS, back when you just made do with whatever dating mechanics you were given). It’s literally the game the gays have been waiting for. … RF5 is the most gay-accessible farming-sim game I have played to date.
Like they started making this on the 3DS and just emulated it when they jumped to console and PC. It’s like the budget went mostly towards the animated cutscenes. There is not one aspect of the game that is pulled off in a satisfying way. According to my wife’s boyfriend, Rune factory 5 is a hollow, borderline soulless game that lacks any real drive.
